NYT Now review

NYT Now presents the important stories of the day in morning and evening briefings, designed to help you stay informed as efficiently as possible. And in addition to showing top stories from The New York Times, this app also provides links to Editor's Picks of articles from other sources to provide well-rounded coverage of what's going on in the world.

Pros

Summaries and sharing: As you scroll through NYT Now's feed, you'll see headlines followed by one or two sentences summarizing the article. You can click through to read the full article from there, or you can share the link directly from the feed page via email or SMS or post it on Facebook.

Nice presentation: This app offers a nice mix of stories, and they're almost all displayed with photos or other art to accompany the headlines. Articles about the same topic may be listed together, so you can read about different aspects of a story easily, and they're all preceded by a header describing the general category of the piece.

Cons

Saving limitations: You can save as many articles as you'd like through this app, but they do all wind up in one long list. Once you've read an article, you can either delete it or keep it on the list, but keeping it will quickly cause your list to become long and unwieldy. It would be nice if there was an option to archive articles you'd like the ability to refer back to later without having to scroll through all of them every time you want to look at your saved pieces.

Bottom Line

NYT Now is a nice way to get your news for the day, and the addition of the Editor's Picks from other sources gives it a more well-rounded feel than some other news apps. The app is free to download and peruse, and you can also access 10 full articles per month without a New York Times subscription. Subscribers have access to unlimited full articles.
