NYPD officers, supervisors accused of stealing, drinking liquor at Electric Zoo fest

Several NYPD officers and supervisors were stripped of their guns and shields after rumors swirled that they stole and quaffed alcohol while on duty at the Electric Zoo music festival on Randalls Island, the department confirmed Tuesday.

The officers from the Manhattan North narcotics unit — including three detectives — were placed on modified duty after the Labor Day weekend festival, the sources said.

The cops were assigned to the Electric Zoo concert between Sept. 2 and Sept. 4 when at least one of them swiped a bottle of alcohol and began passing it around to his co-workers, a police source with knowledge of the case said.

Three detectives in the Manhattan North Narcotics unit were at the heart of the investigation, but a handful of other officers covering the concert were also involved, the source said.

Upon hearing the allegations, a supervisor immediately reported the incident to the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, the NYPD said in a statement.

The bureau, which investigates corruption within the NYPD, is “working closely” with the Manhattan district attorney’s office in light of the claims.

“These are troubling allegations,” a police spokesman said in a statement. “Our work in this case is not done, and we will continue to go where the facts take us.”

Police will make the officers’ disciplinary outcomes available when the investigation is complete, a department spokesman said.

The Electric Zoo festival has been held on Randalls Island since 2009.
