NYFW: Marc Jacobs takes us to the tropics for Spring 2018

Marc Jacobs went out with a bang for New York Fashion Week.

The American designer took us to the tropics for his Spring 2018 collection, which was filled with enough colors, florals and sparkles to last us for fashion weeks to come.

While in the past Jacobs has grown a following for his city-chic vibes, this new collection was somewhat out of the ordinary. Instead, it was a "reimagining of seasons past somewhere beyond the urban landscape of New York City."

We asked Jacobs to take us far away, and he pulled through. Like last season, the show was held at the famed Park Avenue Armory with no music whatsoever. There was no dimming of lights, no blinding flashes -- just Jacobs' models and his designs. These lack of the distractions allowed the audience (exhausted from the days before) to fully focus their energy on the new ready-to-wear collection.

If you blinked, you missed the small charms that hung from the models' duffles, subtly spelling "somewhere" -- the name of the collection. You had to look closely to see the intricate details on the gloves, catch the simple florals on the cross bodies and, most importantly, design inclusions from past seasons.

"We're calling the whole thing 'Somewhere' — from Sofia [Coppola]'s movie. But also, last season was all about this urban landscape, and this is not about any [particular] landscape. It's somewhere, I'm not sure where," the designer said according to Women's Wear Daily.

Chiffon-like flowy gowns adorned models in psychedelic patterns, all of whom sported turban-style headpieces. In the past, Jacobs has been heavily criticized for what those deem as culturally offensive hairstyles, but these turbans are a nod to the late 60s fashion.

Also included in the new season are plaid parkas, oversized menswear, turtlenecks, and fringe. The collection was high in accessories, from purses to boas, fanny packs and opera gloves in classic Jacobs fashion.

Fashion Week icons Bella and Gigi Hadid, Winnie Harlow, Taylor Hill and Binx Walton all walked for Jacobs in eye-catching prints, while Jacobs' favorite Kendall Jenner bared all in a bright yellow see-through turtleneck. Closing the show was newcomer Kaia Gerber, daughter of Cindy Crawford, in a look that'll dazzle for years to come.
