NYC-Philadelphia Amtrak service halted due to downed overhead wires

Amtrak service between New York City and Philadelphia was suspended Wednesday night due to downed wires in New Jersey, officials said.

Service was disrupted around 5:05 p.m. and halted both Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains after overhead wires fell onto the tracks in Kearny, N.J., according to posts made to X.

As of 8:30 p.m., crews were still in the process of clearing the tracks and there was no estimation of when train service would resume, according to Amtrak spokesperson Jason Abrams.

NJ Transit passengers can use their tickets and passes on PATH trains running between Manhattan and New Jersey as well as the transportation system’s busses and private carriers.
