NYC museum, India sign conservation agreement
NEW YORK (AP) — New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and India have signed an agreement to cooperate in areas of conservation, exhibitions and research.
Under the agreement, the Met says the museum and India's Ministry of Culture also will cooperate on short- and long-term loans, publications and public education.
The collaboration also calls for the immediate creation of the Indian Conservation Fellowship Pilot Program. Met Director and CEO Thomas Campbell says under the program emerging Indian conservators will work alongside the museum's staff of nearly 100 conservators and scientists.
A major exhibition focusing on India's Deccan region also is planned for some time in spring 2015.
