NYC mayor: I lived in tiny apt. for 10 years

January 25, 2013

NEW YORK (AP) -- New York City's billionaire mayor says he lived in a tiny apartment for 10 years.

Michael Bloomberg said Friday on WOR Radio that his former home was roughly the size of the micro-units the city plans to build next year.

He slept on a convertible couch and recalls it was "a pain" to remove the pillows and make the bed.

It wasn't as convenient as the state-of-the art Murphy bed he demonstrated for reporters Tuesday while announcing a design contest winner for the mirco-units.

Back in the day, he also built and stained his own bookshelves.

To his annoyance, the shelves warped. Bloomberg said that for 10 years, his books "rocked back and forth."
