NYC mayor hails House passage of Sandy relief bill
NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg applauds House approval of Superstorm Sandy relief bill
NEW YORK (AP) -- New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is applauding the House's passage of a $50.7 billion Superstorm Sandy relief bill
Bloomberg says Tuesday's vote "moves Washington toward honoring their commitment that Americans always make to one another in times of crises." He also thanked New York's Republican and Democratic representatives who worked to pass the bill.
The 241-180 vote sends the measure to the Senate which is expected to take it up next Tuesday.
Northeast lawmakers from both parties have been pressing for the aid for more than two months.
The Oct. 29 storm is blamed for 140 deaths and pounded the Atlantic coast from North Carolina to Maine with hurricane-force winds and coastal flooding. New York, New Jersey and Connecticut were the hardest hit.
