NYC building struck by lightning, 1 injured: FDNY

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — One person was injured when a building was struck by lightning in Lower Manhattan Thursday morning, according to the FDNY.

A building on Pine Street near Water Street was struck around 10:01 a.m., authorities said. One person was taken to an area hospital, but their condition was not immediately known.

New York City forecast and PIX11’s Weather Center

New York City was pummeled by rain and wind Thursday morning as a fast-moving severe thunderstorm moved through the tri-state area.

The storm grounded flights at LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark airports. Flights in Newark have since resumed with delays, but the FAA extended the ground stop for Laguardia and JFK airports in Queens through 12 p.m. Thursday.

The storm quickly moved out of the area, but more rain is expected throughout the afternoon. The high temperature in New York City will be around 82 degrees.
