NYC, Boston museums team up for Sargent exhibit

NEW YORK (AP) — The Brooklyn Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston are presenting an exhibition of John Singer Sargent's watercolors.

The 93 works will be shown at the Brooklyn Museum April 5 to July 28. They'll be in Boston from Oct. 13 to Jan. 20, 2014.

The Brooklyn museum bought 38 works from Sargent's 1909 debut exhibition in New York.

Boston's were acquired in 1912 from a New York gallery.

The exhibition will provide a rare opportunity to see a broad range of Sargent's finest watercolors.

A special section will analyze the American portrait painter's methods. It's based on a scientific study of his pigments, drawing techniques and paper preparation.

The exhibition will later travel to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
