NYC Ballet art series to draw younger audience
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York City Ballet is turning to a hip artistic duo to help bring in a younger audience.
The New York City Ballet Art Series is a new initiative featuring collaborations with contemporary visual artists. They'll create original works for the public spaces at the company's home at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.
Brooklyn-based artists Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller, better known as FAILE (FAYL), have created a 40-foot sculpture made of 2,000 wood blocks. They're decorated with images inspired by the company's repertoire and pieced together in a Jenga-like pillar. It'll be on exhibit Jan. 15 through Feb. 24.
For two performances, on Feb. 1 and May 29, all 2,500 seats in the house will be $29 and every patron will get a limited-edition artist wood block.
