NY1 anchor Lewis Dodley retiring; led evening news since day 1

NY1 anchor Lewis Dodley, who has been with the 24-hour news channel since its launch three decades ago, is retiring at the end of this month.

Dodley announced the news from the anchor desk Monday, as seen in a clip shared by the channel’s official Instagram.

“I’ll be retiring from the NY1 anchor desk at the end of this month. When I was offered this job in 1992, I saw it as the opportunity of a lifetime. I try to treat it that way,” said Dodley. “New York 1 is a window to New York City and to be a face you see here has truly been an honor. … To be a part of the development has been priceless.”

On Instagram, the Spectrum-owned network referred to Dodley as a “NY1 staple since our channel’s first day.”

Dodley’s “remarkable run” was praised by colleague and “Mornings on 1” anchor Pat Kiernan, who shared a congratulatory post on X.

“He’s the only evening anchor NY1 has had in almost 32 years on the air,” continued Kiernan. “His guidance to me and steady presence for viewers have set the standard.”

Other X users shared similar reverence for Dodley, with one remarking that he “is an NYC icon,” offering “a taste of home.”

“I hope they have some kind of public celebration / event for him,” said another, who regards Dodley as “one of the best. A classic – insightful, intelligent and with no shortage of character… He will be deeply missed.”

Prior to working at NY1, Dodley had a career in radio, with stints at WCOL Radio and WBNS Radio, both in Columbus, Ohio. He also reported for the Financial News Network and Financial World Magazine, and anchored WNET’s “Bulldog Edition,” before joining NY1.
