NEW YORK (AP) — The trial of a New York police officer accused of joining a cannibalism conspiracy has ended its first week.
A judge spent Friday afternoon listening to proposed testimony by an FBI expert who studied the computer of Officer Gilberto Valle (VAL'-ee) after his October arrest.
The judge wanted to hear the testimony and see gruesome photographs the government wants the jury to see. Defense lawyers have objected to some of the pictures on the grounds Valle may never have seen them. The judge says he'll rule Monday.
The pictures include images of women being tortured, dead bodies and body parts. Valle is charged with conspiracy and illegally accessing a federal crime database. He maintains he only engaged in fantasies and would not hurt anyone.
