NY man charged, allegedly threatened woman with knife at Teaneck pro-Palestine protest

A New York man has been arrested nearly three weeks after he allegedly harassed and threatened a woman with a knife during a pro-Palestine protest in Teaneck, authorities said.

Ebrahim Yehounatan, 71, of Flushing, New York, was arrested Friday following a motor vehicle stop in Lakewood, according a press release from the Teaneck Police Department. Yehounatan had an active warrant out since April 14, when the alleged victim reported a bias incident to the department.

The woman told police she was part of a vehicle procession supporting Palestine on Teaneck Road when a passenger in the car beside her started yelling "racially charged" epithets at her and fellow participants, the release stated. The passenger also spit in the woman's direction, while the driver, later determined to be Yehounatan, brandished a knife toward her.

The woman recorded the altercation and provided the video to police, who initiated a bias investigation. After Yehounatan was identified as the driver, he was charged with two counts of bias intimidation along with harassment and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.

The rear-seat passenger was also identified, but "a legal review of his conduct determined that his actions did not rise to the level of criminality," police said.

Yehounatan was taken to the Teaneck Police Department following his arrest Friday, where he was served with the warrant and processed. He was then remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending an initial court appearance.
