NY commission postpones hearings on utilities' response to superstorm as bad weather looms

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- The New York commission investigating utilities in the wake of Superstorm Sandy has postponed hearings with more bad weather on the way.

The Moreland Commission on Utility Storm Preparation and Response was planning to hear public comment Wednesday evening in Staten Island and Thursday evening in the Rockaways in Queens.

The hearings are to consider the emergency preparedness and response of utilities to recent storms and recommendations for restructuring their oversight in New York, including the Long Island Power Authority, to ensure reliable power.

New dates were not immediately posted.

An earlier hearing was held in Old Westbury on the north shore of Long Island.
