NWS: Three tornadoes hit Livingston, Iberville Parish on May 13

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The National Weather Service confirmed three additional tornadoes from the severe weather event that occurred across Louisiana on Monday, May 13.

Severe weather including high winds and rain swept through the Baton Rouge area on Monday, May 13.

NWS New Orleans stated in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that they “have confirmed three more tornadoes across the area from the May 13th event after analyzing high-res satellite and storm survey data.”

The strongest of the three confirmed tornadoes by NWS New Orleans was an EF-1 tornado that impacted Port Vincent in Livingston Parish. According to NWS New Orleans, the EF-1 tornado had estimated peak winds at 100 mph and the tornado’s path was 3.12 miles.

The other two confirmed tornadoes were found to be EF-0 tornadoes. The two tornadoes impacted Crescent and Bayou Des Glaises in Iberville Parish. According to NWS New Orleans, the EF-0 tornado in Crescent had estimated peak winds at 85 mph and the tornado’s path was 1.35 miles.

The EF-0 tornado in Bayou Des Glaises had estimated peak winds at 85 miles per hour and the path stretched over 7 miles long, according to NWS New Orleans.

NWS New Orleans stated that “further updates are possible as we comb through more satellite data.

  • EF0: 65-85 mph.

  • EF1: 86-110 mph.

  • EF2: 111-135 mph.

  • EF3: 136-165 mph.

  • EF4: 166-200 mph.

  • EF5: More than 200 mph.
