NWS forecasts 'strong to severe storms' in Austin this week during SXSW 2024
Another round of thunderstorms and rain is predicted this week in parts of Central Texas, though meteorologists were uncertain Monday exactly where the storms will be strongest.
Current predictions place Austin and northern Travis County and all of Williamson County at the southernmost tip of the area projected to see storm activity Thursday. "Large hail stones and damaging winds" are the only projected hazards at this time, according to Jason Runyen and Orlando Bermudez, meteorologists with the National Weather Service in New Braunfels. They urged Central Texans to stay aware of the weather while the forecast is refined.
"There's a chance for strong to severe storms, probably Thursday evening or night, and possibly again Friday, though right now it's up in the air," National Weather Service meteorologist Bob Fogarty said Monday morning.
Fogarty said he predicts under an inch of rain by the end of the week.
