NWS: At least one tornado confirmed in southeastern Missouri

IRON COUNTY, Mo. – The National Weather Service has confirmed at least one tornado in southeastern Missouri from Wednesday’s severe storms.

More tornado designations are possible Thursday after two rounds of tornado-warned storms swept through parts of southern Missouri and the St. Louis region on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has sent survey teams to Iron, Madison and Reynolds counties to evaluate storm damage from Wednesday. The NWS says there are several reports of potential tornadoes, though teams are working to evaluate the extent and severity of damages.

As of early Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service has confirmed evidence of on tornado near Annapolis, Missouri in Iron County.

Annapolis

The tornado in Annapolis, Missouri reached EF1 status. A twister formed around 8:49 p.m. and reached peak speeds of 110 miles per hour. The tornado path was around two miles and its width was around 250 yards. No injuries were reported from this tornado and damages to various trees and properties appear to be scattered.

Two rounds of tornado-warned storms, one in the early afternoon and one in the evening, rolled through Missouri on Wednesday. The storms also packed threats of lightning, hail and heavy rain.
