NWS confirms multiple tornadoes from Thursday’s St. Louis-area storms

ST. LOUIS – The National Weather Service has confirmed at least four tornadoes from Thursday’s St. Louis-area storms.

More tornado designations are likely Friday after three rounds of tornado-warned storms, including one during rush hour commutes Thursday afternoon.

NWS crews are working to survey potential storm damage on the Missouri and Illinois sides of Greater St. Louis. The NWS says there are several reports of potential tornadoes, though teams are working to evaluate the extent and severity of damages.

As of early Friday afternoon, NWS has confirmed these four tornadoes…

EF0 Tornado

Location: Jersey County, Illinois (near Jerseyville)

A twister formed around 7:28 a.m. in a rural area south of Jerseyville and lasted around 10 minutes. NWS reports that the tornado delivered gusts up to 85 miles per hour with a small path and a width around 100 yards.

“Damage was confined to trees, fencing, roofs, and siding,” said NWS via X.

EF0 Tornado

Location: Jersey and Macoupin County, Illinois (near Fidelity)

A twister formed around 7:44 a.m. in a rural area south of Fidelity and lasted roughly four minutes. NWS reports that the tornado delivered gusts up to 85 miles per hour with a small path and a width around 75 yards.

“Damage was confined to trees, roofs, house siding, and a grain silo,” said NWS via X.

EF0 Tornado

Location: Jersey and Macoupin County, Illinois (near Brighton)

A twister formed around 7:46 a.m. in a rural area north of Brighton and lasted less than three minutes. NWS reports that the tornado delivered gusts up to 85 miles per hour with a small path and a width around 100 yards.

NWS reports some damages to trees, roofs and house siding.

EF0 Tornado

Location: St. Louis County, Missouri (near Charlack)

A twister formed around 7:46 a.m. near Lackland Road and lasted less than two minutes. NWS reports that the tornado delivered gusts up to 75 miles per hour with a small path and a width around 50 yards.

“Damage was confined to trees, fencing, roofs, and siding,” said NWS via X.

Tornado (Unrated)

Location: Monroe County, Illinois (near Maeystown)

A twister formed around 4:35 p.m. and moved northeast. On the NWS X page, this was the only apparent tornado from Thursday’s St. Louis-area storms “confirmed” in real time. NWS has not yet disclosed additional details about this tornado.

Tornado (Unrated)

Location: Macoupin County, Illinois (near Carlinville)

A twister formed around 7:58 a.m. and lasted two minutes. The tornado tracked east-southeast, according to NWS St. Louis. Winds reached an estimated 80 mph and a width of 100 yards. Damage included a farm outbuilding, trees, and shingles of one residence.

NOTES: To this point, no injuries have been reported from these tornadoes.
