NWACC, UAFS, other Arkansas colleges awarded more than $20M for nursing programs

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The NorthWest Arkansas Community College was among 19 universities in the Natural State awarded more than $20 million for nursing programs.

It received an Arkansas Linking Industry to Growing Nurses (ALIGN) grant of $2.1 million to help support and grow the nursing program.

The money will go toward new equipment, a new facility and help pay for the salaries of the clinical instructors.

The Dean of Health Professions at NWACC said the grant will greatly boost the program and its students.

“There’s plenty of nursing positions available we just don’t have the capability to put out enough nurses right now and that’s what this grant is going to help with,” Mark Wallenmeyer said.

The grant is in partnership with Mercy Northwest Hospital and Northwest Health Systems.

  • Ouachita Baptist University – $487,000.00

  • Philander Smith University – $396,857.13

  • University of Arkansas Eleanor Mann School of Nursing $1,198,353.00

  • University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB) – $368,614.26

  • University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) – $2,024,546.00

  • University of Arkansas – Fort Smith – $2,033,375.00

  • University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Nursing – $969,200.00

  • University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences – $1,679,566.07

  • University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff – $1,004,000.00

  • University of Arkansas Rich Mountain – $645,850.00

  • University of Central Arkansas School of Nursing – $476,100.00
