NV Energy issues proactive power outage for Mt. Charleston area due to upcoming weather conditions

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Due to elevated fire and weather conditions forecasted for the weekend, NV Energy has issued a power outage watch for the Mt. Charleston area.

The outage is likely to affect approximately 500 NV Energy customers beginning at approximately 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, and lasting until approximately 11 a.m. Sunday, May 5.

During a proactive outage – also known as a Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM) event – NV Energy will proactively de-energize power for customers in high-risk zones to help protect the community and environment from wildfires. The proactive outage will be adjusted or canceled if weather conditions change.

Customers potentially impacted by a PSOM are being notified via phone, text, email messages, and social media. NV Energy will continue to monitor fire weather conditions and will provide regular updates on the status.

Wind gusts of 60+ miles per hour are possible in some areas, with winds peaking on Saturday afternoon and overnight into Sunday. Gusty conditions could last into Sunday evening for the Las Vegas Valley. Additional NV Energy crews will be on standby to respond to possible outages.

Additional information, including outage preparedness tips, PSOM criteria and maps of the impacted zones can be found online.

Additionally, NV Energy is alerting customers throughout the Las Vegas Valley to prepare for possible outages due to forecasted high winds exceeding 50 mph.
