“Nuggets Kid” uses viral fame for a good cause

16-year-old Carter Wilkerson isn’t letting his nugget-fueled rise to viral fame go to waste. After his tweet for a year of free Wendy’s chicken nuggets broke the retweet record previously held by Ellen Degeneres, he’s using the hashtag #nuggsforcarter to gain donations for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Some big names like Wendy’s have donated $100k, and Oath, a Verizon company, has agreed to match that amount in in-kind donations. Verizon is in a deal to acquire Yahoo Finance’s parent company, Yahoo. As for Carter, 3.5 million retweets later, he still hasn’t gotten his first order of free nuggets. Yahoo Finance’s Rob Smith talked with Carter about his wild ride and what’s next for #nuggsforcarter.
