Update: NT police say two adults and a child were in truck struck by train

May 18—North Tonawanda police say the occupants of a truck killed after it was struck by an Amtrak train in North Tonawanda on Friday night were a 69-year-old man, 66,-year-old woman and a 6-year-old child.

The incident is being investigated by the North Tonawanda Police Department and several other agencies.

North Tonawanda fire officials say the collision occurred about 8 p.m. Friday at Felton Street and River Road.

Platoon 4 under the command of Assistant Chief Tim Berecz and Captain Matt Smolinski were dispatched to the accident and reported the three occupants of the Dodge pickup truck were still inside the vehicle.

NT Fire Department Truck 1 was brought in for extra extrication equipment and all available off-duty firefighters were also requested. Three ambulances from Twin City Ambulance were also requested to the scene.

After the occupants were pulled out of the vehicle and resuscitative efforts were initiated but were unsuccessful.

Fire officials said crews were on scene for nearly two hours.

Following the incident, all first responders on scene were offered peer counseling and mental health resources should they be needed.

Amtrak officials said there were no injuries on board the train and company officials were working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident.
