You can now reserve eclipse parking in Avon

AVON, Ohio (WJW) — The city of Avon will have one of the best views of the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, being nearly on the centerline of the eclipse’s path of totality.
As such, city and Lorain County officials are expecting thousands of eclipse tourists for the celestial show, according to a Tuesday news release.
“Where is everyone going to park?” it reads. “Don’t be left in the dark without a place to park! The Avon Local School District is ready with hundreds of parking spaces on our campuses for everyone to enjoy the historic day.”

It’s one of dozens of Northeast Ohio school districts planning to close for the eclipse, is now offering online eclipse parking reservations for $35 per spot. The price will go up to $50 on April 8, payable by cash or credit, according to the release.

You can even throw in an extra $2 to get a pair of eclipse-viewing glasses which will be waiting for you when you park. They’ll cost $5 each on April 8.
The partial eclipse is expected to happen between 1:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., with the full eclipse expected between 3:10 p.m. and 3:20 p.m. Totality will last nearly 4 minutes.

The lots are set to open at 7 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 8, according to the release. Visitors must bring a driver’s license with the name registered to the parking reservation in order to get in.
Concessions and portable restrooms are expected to be available in the lot, according to the release. Alcohol, tobacco, drugs and firearms are prohibited on school property.
