Notre Dame to wear helmet stickers honoring Ara Parseghian (Video)

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly made sure his players understood the impact of Ara Parseghian.

Parseghian, the legendary Notre Dame head coach, died Wednesday morning at 94. Kelly, speaking to his players during preseason camp, made sure the Irish knew of Parseghian’s legacy on and off the field.

“A great man, a great person, an innovative football coach. Our hearts are heavy, but our spirits are lifted because he loved Notre Dame. He loved everything about Notre Dame,” Kelly said. “It’s our jobs to uphold the legacy of Notre Dame and Notre Dame’s tradition. And he is a big part of the tradition of Notre Dame football that you represent every day that you put on the jersey.”

Kelly then announced to the team that Parseghian would be represented by the team for the 2017 season with a helmet sticker.

“On our helmets this year, we will have right on the front here, Ara. A-R-A right on the front here to remember a legend in Notre Dame football, Ara Parseghian,” Kelly said.

Parseghian had a 95-17-4 record in his 11 seasons at Notre Dame and won national championships in 1966 and 1973. His 95 wins are third-most in program history. He also served as head coach at Northwestern and Miami (Ohio).
