'Nothing suspicious, no trauma.' Bodies found in Carroll County home identified

ROSE TWP. ‒ Authorities have formally identified the two people found dead late last year inside a house on Ivory Road NW.

The bodies of Jimmie Rhoden, 59, and his mother, Shelvagean Rhoden, 79, were discovered inside their home on Dec. 26 by a young male, possibly a teenager, according to Carroll County Sheriff Calvin Graham.

Authorities suspect the pair had been dead about a year and a half.

The remains were transported to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office in Cleveland where the identities were confirmed by X-rays and medical records.

"Nothing suspicious, no trauma to the bodies," Graham said. "Both had medical problems."

Jimmie Rhoden is listed with Carroll County real estate records as the owner of the property, which is about six miles southeast of Magnolia in eastern Rose Township.

Evidence from the scene suggests the pair could have died in June 2021. The Carroll County Coroner's Office referred any inquiries to the county sheriff.

"The power company had shut off the power on Aug. 24, 2021," Graham said.

So far no relatives have come forward to claim the remains so the pair will likely be buried in a township cemetery.

"The township is responsible to pay for the burial," Graham said.

What becomes of the property has yet to be determined.

"Right now the (real estate) taxes are current," Carroll County Treasurer Jeff Yeager said. "It looks like it is a tax service company that has been keeping those taxes up to date. I can't do anything with it because it is not delinquent. I can't foreclose until they are delinquent."
