Not-guilty plea entered in La Crosse stabbing case

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A plea is entered for a La Crosse man charged in relation to a stabbing death last December. Court documents show a plea of not guilty was entered today for 51-year-old Bryant Smith on a charge of first-degree intentional homicide.

According to a criminal complaint, on December 5th, Smith called La Crosse County Dispatch and reported that he had stabbed someone after that person had tried to kill him. Officers entered Smith’s apartment to check on the victim and declared them dead at the scene. The initial report said that the victim had been stabbed and cut 45 times. A pre-trial conference is set for June 28th.
