Along with Halloween, Easter is one of our most beloved candy-related holidays. Yes, solemn religious occasion and fertility ritual, of course. But also CANDY. And even with as many Cadbury eggs as we go through per season, we’re still totally shocked to find out exactly how much candy the US gobbles up during this springy holiday.

Easter is, of course, fun for everyone in the family (who likes chocolate.) Adults and children get really into it! So much so that, according to the National Retail Federation, people will spend $18.4 billion on supplies.

THAT’S RIGHT!

Easter has become one of the largest spending holidays in the United States. Due to warmer weather and the holiday coming in later in the month, this year’s spending is up from last year’s $17.3 billion. That’s a lot of money. A lot. But what is even crazier is that most of that money, 86% of it to be exact, will go towards buying candy.

$2.6 billion in total sales JUST for candy alone.

Halloween better watch its back from now on…

Clearly Easter is gunning for that top spot. While Halloween may always be Candy King, Easter is closing in! This year, according to the National Confectioners Association, 16 billion jelly beans will be bought and consumed by the American people. That is a lot of colorful sugary goodness.

Are you ready to hear how many chocolate bunnies we’ll consume?

This Easter, the NCA also reports that about 90 million chocolate bunnies will be eaten. That’s insane! That means that if every person in New York, California and Texas got one bunny each there would still be leftovers. Guess sugar really is as addictive as they say!

But no matter how many jelly beans or chocolate bunnies we consume, it’s usually worth it. So go out there and indulge!
