Jun. 10—Wreaths Across American to hold craft fair

A craft and vendor show featuring handmade crafts for sale, homemade treats and an ice cream truck will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 26 at the J.Howard Snyder Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781 at 100 Billot Ave., North Huntingdon.

Money raised at the event will be used by the North Huntingdon chapter of Wreaths Across America to purchase about 6,700 live evergreen wreaths to be placed at the gravesites of veterans buried at Union Cemetery, Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Long Run Cemetery and Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.

Norwin youth girls basketball season to open

The Norwin Girls Youth Basketball Association is registering girls in North Huntingdon, Irwin and North Irwin for its in-house season.

The registration is open until July 24 for the season that begins Aug. 1. Depending on the weather, games and practices will be outdoors at Irwin Park. If Norwin School District gymnasiums become available for use to the organization, the in-house season practices and games will be played indoors. Practice days and times depend on the coach's availability.

For girls in kindergarten to second grade, the fee for the instructional program is $80. The fee for students in grades three to eight, who will be divided into divisions with games and playoffs, is $120. Registrations prior to July 5th are eligible for a $10 discount.

Norwin Class of 1971 to hold reunion

The Norwin High School Class of 1971 will hold its 50th class reunion from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Antonelli Event Center; 100 Colony Drive, North Huntingdon.

A welcome reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., with a buffet to follow at 7:15 p.m.

West Newton Library to auction Civil War book

The West Newton Library is holding a Chinese auction on June 30 for the book, "Waiting for Jacob: A Civil War Story," a true story of love, courage and remembrance written by the late Dr. Edwin P. Hogan of Smithton.

The book focuses on Jacob Greenawalt of Sewickley Township, who died in 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness during the Civil War, and his wife, Rebecca, who mourned his death for the rest of her life.

Hogan, who died in 2018, gave numerous talks and presentations about the story.

Bids will start at $30 and can be mailed to the West Newton Library, P.O. Box 221, West Newton, Pa. 15089, with the bidder's name, address, phone number or email.

Envelopes will be opened June 30 and the winner notified.
