Northwestern DE Xavier Washington suspended after drug possession arrest

Northwestern defensive end Xavier Washington has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest for felony possession of a controlled substance.

Per the Chicago-Sun Times, Washington was arrested early on Sunday morning after police were called to a disturbance. After Washington allegedly left the scene of the disturbance, officers found him near an intersection and allegedly found him in possession of a half-gram of cocaine.

Washington, a junior in 2016, had eight starts and was second on the team with 4.5 sacks. He had 38 tackles overall. He appeared in 24 games over the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He’s a likely starter in 2017.

Washington, a native of Cedar Hill, Texas, was a two-star recruit in the class of 2014.
