Northern lights dance over Eastern Oregon

LA GRANDE — The aurora borealis was powerful enough May 10-11 to be visible well into the lower 48 contiguous United States. The Observer asked its Facebook followers to share their photos and experiences of the event, and they did not disappoint.

The post received more than 130 comments.

Theresa Taylor, of La Grande, summed up seeing the aurora in Union County with three words: “It was amazing.”

Carmen Julia McKaig described the event as something her entire family enjoyed.

“We got our girls out of bed and drove up (Mount) Emily. It was so fun to experience this aurora borealis together,” she said.

Christina Williams said the event was on her bucket list.

“One of my kids and I were lucky enough to see it. Absolutely breathtaking,” she said.
