North Webster man dead in Wednesday crash

May 15—GOSHEN — A North Webster man died in a three-vehicle crash which took place late Wednesday afternoon southwest of Goshen.

The crash took place at the intersection of Ind. 119 and C.R. 17. Kaiden Ruff, 20, was headed northeast on Ind. 119 at about 4:16 p.m. when, according to an Elkhart County Sheriff's Office report, his 2012 Yamaha FZ6 motorcycle disregarded a red light at the intersection and was struck by a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse driven north on C.R. 17 by Brenda Gonzalez Gutierrez, 31, Elkhart. Ruff was thrown from the motorcycle and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The motorcycle then struck the front end of 2012 Dodge Avenger driven south on C.R. 17 by Marianna Avelino, 28, Elkhart. Gutierrez was taken to Goshen Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, and Avelino was uninjured. Ruff was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the release added. Both other drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Northbound traffic on Ind. 119 was blocked off and traffic on C.R. 17 slowed in both directions as first responders worked the scene.

As of Wednesday evening the crash remained under investigation.
