North Vermilion High School placed on lockdown Monday morning

MAURICE, La. (KLFY) — North Vermilion High School was temporarily placed on lockdown Monday morning, according to the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office said authorities at the North Vermilion High School placed the school on lockdown around 10:47 a.m. Monday morning. Officials said a student reported seeing a male subject in a camouflage jacked walking on campus.

Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office looking for subject connected to burglary

Sheriff deputies and members of the Sheriff’s Special Response Team responded to the incident and secured the school. After the incident, authorities said they learned that the person in question was the school’s grounds keeper.

The school was released from lockdown at 11:50 p.m. and resumed normal operations. VPSO said although it was a false alarm, the incident was still and example of a good observation by students.

diligent in reporting what could have been a real incident. The safety of our schools largely
depends upon the students doing their part and today it worked,” said Sheriff Mike Couvillon.
