North St. Louis water main break floods streets

ST. LOUIS — A major water main break is turning part of a north St. Louis neighborhood into a lake this morning. It’s all unfolding at the intersection of Penrose and Blair in the Hyde Park neighborhood very close to I-70.

Residents say water started gushing out from the street very early this morning around 4 a.m. There is visible damage to the street at the intersection and parts of the nearby sidewalk seem damaged as well.

City water crews have been on the scene for a while but they have had some trouble trying to figure out which main to shut off. A water department worker told us there are multiple mains in that area and they were trying to figure out which one had the break.

No injuries are being reported but residents are certainly stunned to wake up to a river flowing down their street. There is no word on when the break might be stopped and repairs started. So far, residents in the immediate homes affected affected by the break have not reported any flooding in their homes.
