Update: North Myrtle Beach High School student on bike struck by vehicle at school Wednesday

A North Myrtle Beach High School student on a bicycle was struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning outside the school.

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the high school, 3750 Sea Mountain Highway in Little River, about 7:51 a.m. for an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, according to spokesman Tony Casey by text.

Lisa Bourcier with Horry County Schools confirmed Wednesday that the person hit was a student at the high school.

The student was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Casey said.

The accident happened on Highway 20, according to Lance Cpl. Lena Butler with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The student was on a bicycle traveling westbound on Highway 20 and was stopped in traffic when the student was struck by a 2016 Chevrolet Trax, Butler said.

The bicyclist was transported to Grand Strand Medical Center, Butler said.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

This is the third day of classes for Horry County Schools, which began its new school year Monday.
