North Korea warns Donald Trump it will soon be able to destroy New York with nuclear missiles

North Korea has warned Donald Trump that it will soon be capable of launching a nuclear attack on New York City.

The claim was made in state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun, which speaks for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s regime.

‘The DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) is about 10,400km [6,462 miles] far away from New York,’ the statement read.

‘But this is just not a long distance for its strike today.’

In the article, titled, ‘US hostile policy is bound to go bankrupt’, the regime goads the US president, who tweeted at the beginning of this year that North Korea could not develop a nuclear weapon capable of reaching American soil.

In January, Mr Trump tweeted: ‘North Korea just stated that it is in the final stages of developing a nuclear weapon capable of reaching parts of the U.S. It won’t happen!’

In a direct response to Mr Trump’s tweeting, North Korea has threatened that its weapons could soon be fired on the US.

The newspaper statement read: ‘Trump blustered early this year that the DPRK’s final access to a nuclear weapon that can reach the US mainland will never happen.

‘But the strategic weapons tests conducted by the DPRK clearly proved that the time of its ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) test is not a long way off at all.

‘The U.S. is feeling uneasy as this might be proven in practice. This is because its hostile policy will end in futile when the DPRK conducts the test-fire of ICBM capable of precisely striking any place of the US mainland.

‘And its successful test will solemnly declare the total bankruptcy of the US hostile policy.’

Missiles experts believe North Korea’s claims are unfounded, and that its Hwasong-12 missile that was tested last month may only be able to travel half the 5,500 miles required to reach the US.

‘While the success of the Hwasong-12 may advance the North Korean ICBM program by perhaps a year, deployment of an operational ICBM prior to 2020 is still unlikely,’ analyst John Schilling told the US-Korea Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies recently.

Mr Trump has deployed naval ships to South Korea in an effort to prevent North Korea from carrying out further weapons tests.
