North Dakota’s Chief Information Officer Kuldip Mohanty will resign effective May 31 to spend more time with family, Gov. Doug Burgum’s office said in a Tuesday announcement.

Mohanty has led the North Dakota Information Technology Department since February 2023.

Mohanty worked on updating the state’s unemployment insurance system, developing policies regulating the use of artificial intelligence and creating the Business Gateway, an online portal for North Dakota business owners, the announcement said.

Before that position, he served as chief information officer of HUB International Limited, an insurance company.

“I had the utmost pleasure of leading an amazing team of leaders within North Dakota Information Technology in delivering value to our citizens in collaboration with our agency partners,” Mohanty said in his resignation letter, according to the announcement.

Burgum has tapped Deputy Chief Information Officer Greg Hoffman to serve as Mohanty’s replacement on an interim basis.

“Kuldip brought a deep understanding of system operations and a strong focus on customer service during his impactful 15 months as CIO, ensuring that NDIT was able to meet the needs of its agency partners so they could better serve North Dakota citizens,” Burgum said in the announcement.

North Dakota Information Technology has 479 full-time employees, which operate across five areas: Data, Technology, Security, Customer Success and Operations, according to the announcement.
