North Baton Rouge residents, students learn more about housing, real estate
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A summit about middle housing in Baton Rouge focuses on teaching students and residents about investing in real estate.
Councilwoman Chauna Banks said the summit focuses on diversifying housing opportunities and helping others learn the fundamentals of generating wealth. Banks and several other Baton Rouge leaders are working to improve the economic development in District 2 with housing and grocery stores.
April Hawthorne, executive director of Baton Rouge North Economic Development District, said knowledge and skills need to be shared with the youth.

Banks said 25 Scotlandville Magnet High School students were in attendance who were interested in learning more.
“I think it’s important to let students know you don’t have to be older and established to begin building wealth,” Banks said.
Student Maleni Morrow said she is interested in opening a doggy daycare and this event inspired her to explore the real estate industry.
Morrow said students should process all the information before making a financial decision, saying, “Just listen and take opportunities, don’t reject the information, just take it in and think about it.”
