North Augusta teen dies in overnight Aiken County crash
Nov. 19—A North Augusta teenager was killed in singe-vehicle crash south of Clearwater that sent one person to the hospital.
Sydney McKie, 18, died at Wellstar MCG Hospital from injuries she sustained during a single-vehicle wreck, according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.
Ables said the crash took place at 2:09 a.m. on Augusta Road near Old Cherokee Drive.
A northbound 2007 Kia Optima went off the right side of the road, striking a tree and a fence, Lance Cpl. Lena Butler said.
The vehicle's two occupants were taken to an area hospital, where McKie died, Butler said.
The crash remains under investigation.
