Norridge police officer stabbed during altercation with suspect

NORRIDGE, Ill. — A police officer in Norridge is recovering on Saturday night after he was stabbed during an altercation with a suspect.

According to Norridge police, it all happened just before 6 p.m. while officers were transporting a 37-year-old man from the hospital to the police station.

Police say during the transport, the man began to cause a disturbance in the back seat of the squad car. The officers pulled over to check on the man, but while one officer was checking on him, the man allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the officer and himself.

Police said the officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Officers say the man remains in police custody, presents no threat to the public, and was also taken to the hospital for his injury.
