Norman resident captures airplane lined up with sun, moon during eclipse in Soper

Apr. 8—A little more than the moon got between a Norman resident and the sun on Monday afternoon.

In a one-in-a-million shot, Lindsey Kunz took a picture of an airplane as it crossed the moon during the totality of the eclipse.

Kunz, a mother of four and business owner, took her kids to Soper to experience the eclipse.

Her daughter Scarlett had pointed out the airplane a few seconds before Kunz took the picture, but she had no intention of lining the airplane with the cosmos. She just wanted to take a picture of the airplane near the moon.

"The plane in view of the eclipse, that would be pretty cool," Kunz said. "I just pressed the capture button and looked at the photo and thought, "Oh, gosh, it's dead center on the eclipse!"

She said the thinly veiled clouds provided a perfect filter for the shot.

"I was really just trying to get a photo of the eclipse, and at the last second there was the plane flying through," she said.

Kunz and her husband Cory Kunz drove to Soper from Norman because they wanted to find a spot where they could view the eclipse in its totality, but they didn't want to hit up a big town like Broken Bow, or even Dallas to avoid traffic.

The family drove by Soper Public School where Lindsey noticed the fields were open to the public for viewing.

"We started looking at the path of totality map to find somewhere that wouldn't be overrun with a ton of crowds near Hugo," Kunz said.

She said her only regret is she didn't have enough time to get the photo in better focus.
