NOPD’s fourth district gets new police station in Algiers
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Nearly 20 years after Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans Police Department has opened a new state-of-the-art fourth district station.
Several officials attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday afternoon and said the station is not just a win for the department. “This new, modern NOPD fourth district station is equipped with the latest technology to address safety concerns and emergency response needs of the people of Algiers,” said NOPD Chief Deputy Superintendent Hans Ganthier.

Construction of the two-story, 18,696 square feet facility began in 2021. The project, which cost $7.9 million, was funded by FEMA and the sale of City Bonds.
Next door, the New Orleans Fire Department will soon start construction on its eighth district station. “Having two public safety agencies joined in the same complex will undoubtedly lead to better, more efficient communication and may well save lives,” Ganthier said.
