Is your nonprofit, school or cultural association 100 years old? We'd like to hear from you.

The Des Moines Register dates its founding to July 26, 1849, when publisher Barlow Granger printed the first edition of the Iowa Star. We’ll be celebrating with special content throughout the month of July.

We also want to recognize other longtime institutions that have contributed to the tapestry of life in Iowa, so we earlier invited businesses across Iowa that are at least a century old to submit brief information about their companies. Businesses can participate by filling out the form at DesMoinesRegister.com/OldestBusinesses.

By popular demand, we’re also now asking for information from noncommercial groups ‒ nonprofits, educational and governmental organizations, cultural and civic associations ‒ that are at least a century old and continue to maintain physical operations in Iowa. We’ll compile an online list from the organizations that submit information and will do larger stories on a handful of them in a special package in July.
