Nonprofit helping rural teachers further their education

OURAY, Colo. (KREX) — The Ouray Teacher’s Fund was founded less than two years ago to help keep Ouray school teachers passionate about their work.

To refresh their love of what they’re learning about. Their love of what they’re teaching and sharing with students. The winner in this interaction really is the student who has a teacher who’s deeply engaged in the learning process, therefore modeling deep engagement with the material.

Jeff Kissingford, president of Ouray Teacher’s Fund

Kissingford said they’ve funded four teachers in the Ouray School—around 20% of all staff. For example, the language teacher receives funds to learn American Sign Language. Another teacher was able to attend a conference on special education.

Teachers can apply for funding on its website. You can also donate on their website. Kissingford told WesternSlopeNow the Ouray Teacher’s Fund is hosting a silent auction fundraiser at the end of May. He said many ‘Ouray experiences’ like a tour of the Via Ferrata will be available for bidding.
