Fans will see a different kind of “cowboy” at the Professional Bull Riders World Finals Championship in Arlington in May: Kid Rock.

The Michigan-born singer is partnering with PBR on “Kid Rock’s Rock N Rodeo,” a new rodeo event which mashes Kid Rock’s music and a six-team rodeo competition with a $1 million purse. The event is part of the larger world championship weekend, which is set for May 17-19 at AT&T Stadium.

Despite gray skies Thursday morning, inside the stadium Kid Rock took the PBR press conference stage decked out in a gold and sparkly getup.

“I do believe this is like [PBR CEO Sean Gleason] said, the last great American sport,” Kid Rock told a group of reporters and rodeo staff. “But I would add the last great non-woke American sporting event.”

Kid Rock last stopped by Fort Worth last summer, where he performed on his “No Snowflakes” tour at Dickies Arena. The outspoken Republican singer delivered a 17-song, one-hour, 45-minute expletive-filled show.

Before the press conference began, Kid Rock came out on horseback and rode across where the Dallas Cowboys play.

While the “Cowboy” singer later said the ride wasn’t quite what he envisioned, it was still a fun opportunity to ride across the field.

“In my head I’m like, ‘I’m going to be ripping across the turf, my hairs going to be blowing in the breeze’,” he said. “And then I get here and they say, ‘We have a shoed horse here’.”

Tickets are on sale now for Kid Rock’s rodeo extravanganza, which will take over AT&T Stadium on May 17.

At the press conference, Kid Rock said everyone is welcome at the event and especially “hardworking folks who love this country.” The singer added that at this event, “we stand up and take our hats off for the national anthem.”

If the musically themed event is a hit, Kid Rock said he might bring the idea along to other places so everyone can experience the rodeo.

“You’re kind of spoiled here in Texas, because you get a lot of it,” Kid Rock said. “I don’t get a whole lot of that up in Detroit.”
