No signs US aid to Ukraine is misused, Washington says

“We have no indication that U.S. funds have been misused in Ukraine,” said Apper.

She added that Washington welcomes “ongoing efforts by the Ukrainian authorities to work with us to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place so that U.S. assistance reaches those for whom it is intended.”

Apper noted that the treasury department will continue to work closely with the World Bank in tracking U.S. payments “to confirm that they are used as intended, as well as with Ukraine and other partners, to tackle corruption.”

On Jan. 27, it was reported that auditors from the United States arrived in Kyiv to inspect the use of international military assistance.

The ambassadors of G7 countries to Ukraine earlier stated that the fight against corruption is of critical importance for the increase in foreign aid and for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Last week, a wave of resignations of Ukrainian top officials swept the country due to possible corruption abuses in the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry of Defense, and in Naftogaz (state-owned oil and natural gas company).

The EU welcomed the fact that the Ukrainian authorities take corruption allegations against officials seriously. At the same time, the United States expressed confidence that the corruption allegations that have led to these resignations aren’t connected to military and humanitarian assistance provided by the United States.
