This time around, the atmosphere will be more laidback, with a "no frills, very casual, come-off-the-beach attitude," said Tracy Vaughan, who co-owns the restaurant with her husband, Richard. Expect hamburgers, hot dogs, fried clams, lobster and a raw bar.

"Right now, we decided we would move forward for the summer and operate for the foreseeable future," she added.

The restaurant at 145 Nantasket Ave. has been closed since January 2023 after a 3½-year run, with the Vaughans citing the COVID-19 pandemic and difficulty maintaining staff as key reasons for the shutdown.

Since the closure, the Vaughans sought a buyer for the location and lobbied the select board to give them until the end of April to hang onto their alcohol license to sweeten any potential sale.

The restaurant sits in a two-story, 5,389-square-foot building with three kitchens and bars, a patio and ocean views. It remains actively listed for sale for $1.5 million.

Tracy Vaughan said they would "probably keep their options open" in terms of looking for a buyer, but will keep the restaurant running for now.

"Things are always changing in this industry," she said. "I think you never say never."

The Vaughans went before the Hull Select Board on Thursday afternoon to receive approvals for various operational licenses, including alcohol and entertainment.

Nantasket Flatts will have different operating hours, depending on the time of year.

Through June 23, the restaurant will be open Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m.; Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m.; and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to the license. After that, through Sept. 23, the restaurant will expand its hours to include Tuesday and Wednesday, then return to the reduced schedule.

During the remote meeting Thursday, Richard Vaughan expressed his appreciation to the board for getting the approvals done so quickly.

"It would have been problematic to miss the holiday weekend," he said.
