No PlayStation 4 at E3, says Sony
Rumors of the PlayStation 4‘s imminent arrival have been greatly exaggerated, according to Sony.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Sony reps denied rumors that the company was planning to reveal the PlayStation 4 during the upcoming E3 trade show. In fact, the company is still planning to stick by its vision of the PlayStation 3 — which was released in 2006 — as a product with a 10-year life cycle.
“We are not making any announcements at E3,” said Kaz Hirai, who oversees Sony’s gaming and consumer electronics division, during a roundtable event at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show. “I’ve always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that.”
While some might lament the lack of news about the PlayStation 4, it’s not entirely unexpected — especially with the PlayStation 3 finally beginning to gain momentum due to its high-end graphics capabilities and other features that were ahead of the curve when it was first released.
