No ‘immediate danger’ found after Deshler High, Middle School placed on lockdown

DESHLER, Ala. (WHNT) — Tuscumbia authorities found no immediate threat of danger after a witness reported a shot being fired at the Board of Education building near Deshler Middle and High School.

Tuscumbia City Schools (TCS) said a school resource officer received a report from the Tuscumbia Police Department at around 12:48 p.m. on Wednesday that a witness had seen a single shot fired at the Board of Education building.

“Due to the proximity of Deshler Middle School and Deshler High School to the Board of Education, both schools were placed on lockdown,” TCS said in a release.

Additional communication from the police department told TCS officials the call was near the previous Board of Education building, and the school system said they transitioned to a secure perimeter for a short period.

Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan said the department checked out the call at the old BOE building and found “it was nothing.”

“At no time were students or staff in any immediate danger,” Superintendent Russ Tate said in his statement.
