No environmental damage after NH plant explosion
PETERBOROUGH, N.H. (AP) — Firefighters say an explosion that injured 15 people at a New Hampshire ball bearings plant doesn't appear to have caused any environmental damage.
Hazardous-materials teams responded after Monday afternoon's explosion at the New Hampshire Ball Bearings Inc. plant in Peterborough.
Fire Department spokesman Eric Bowman says the cause of the explosion hasn't been determined but it appears to be an industrial-related incident.
Plant machine operator Paul Clark says he was outside when he heard a bang, felt a rumble and saw snow blown off the roof. He says his girlfriend was inside the shipping department when shelves fell off the walls but she wasn't injured.
New Hampshire Ball Bearings' corporate headquarters are in Chatsworth, Calif. It's a division of Japanese company Minebea.
