No charges filed so far against anti-war protesters
ST. LOUIS – As of Monday, no one is facing criminal charges after 100 people were arrested over the weekend for participating in anti-war protests on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis. Twenty-three students and four faculty members were among those taken into custody.
In a statement, the university claim the protesters began to set up in violation of university policy. They said it became clear they did not have good intentions and the decision was made that everyone present needed to leave.
“We arrested 100 individuals who refused to leave after being asked multiple times,” the statement said.

According to the university, all of them face trespassing charges, while others also face charges of resisting arrest and assault. Three police officers sustained injuries while attempting to remove the protesters, including a severe concussion, a broken finger, and a groin injury.
A spokesman for the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said they have not received any requests that charges be filed against anyone arrested at the event.
Washington University Chancellor Andrew Martin said the university is firmly committed to free expression, but they must enforce policies.
“Please know we will respond proportionately each and every time. You will not do this here,” Martin said in a statement.
